When Affliction Tries To Rob Our Joy

By: Pastor Mike Matthews

When we suffer, no matter the nature of the suffering, it can be easy to lose sight of joy or even God’s purposes for our lives.

That’s why we turn to God’s Word. Verses 17 and 18 of 2 Corinthians 4 and our battle cry in the midst of pain and affliction.

On these verses, Charles Spurgeon was quoted saying, “We may well say no affliction weighs no more than a gnat resting on an elephant when the Lord’s upholding grace is sweetly manifested to our soul in times of perplexity, anxiety and pain”

This takes an eternal perspective to grasp this. We focus on Christ and what storms, affliction and pain is building too. It ends with glory with him. It build a joy in us that’s not determined by this world.

Weary saints, take heart in your afflictions. They are not for nothing.

Keep limping for Jesus!

Prayer-

Jesus, give us focus that looks to the unseen, not the temporary. You are our Joy and treasure. Life leaves us limping so we will limp for your glory. Amen.
