What Is A Man?
Pastor Mike Matthews
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 ESV
Brothers in Christ living with disabilities, I have a word of encouragement for you. You need to hear this from a brother living with a disability and for Jesus.
What is a man? A man of God is defined by who you are, not what you can do.
Disability can take our physical abilities, but it cannot touch our character if we don’t let it.
The typical men’s ministry idea of “becoming a man” is always activity based. Camping, fishing, Sports and “roughing it” for Jesus.
I can’t tell you how many times able-bodied men in and outside church has tried to make me feel like a lesser man, because I couldn’t “do” something.
But I can be a man sold out for Christ.
I can be a man with character in the face of trials.
I can be a man my wife trusts with her heart.
I can be a man that leads my son’s heart.
I can be a man that uses his disability and suffering For God’s glory.
Brothers, you can too. Focus on who Jesus wants you to be, not what others think you can’t do.
Limp on! Limp well. Limp loved.
Prayer-
Lord, you call every man, including those with disabilities to be men of God. Help us to focus being, not doing. Amen.
